A family of four from Blairmont, West Bank Berbice, is seeking to rebuild their lives from scratch after a fire reduced their home to ashes in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The fire broke out shortly after 1 AM at the Lot 100 Zorg-En-Hoop, Blairmont residence of Bishram Jaglall, a pan floor attendant attached to the Blairmont Estate.

Jaglall lived at the wooden, one bedroom house with his 26-year-old wife and their two children, ages 3 and 8.
At the time the fire started, the family was next door at the home of Jaglall’s mother, whose house also suffered damages.
“Last night I went over deh. Nobody nah went home this over. Abbie deh in one one hammock deh, me and mecousin and me buddy, Abbie only hear something start buss up and one a me buddy seh look a house a burn up deh. Me seh you mad, a house nah burn. When I watch the whole inside was bare fire,” Jaglall told NCN News.
The house relied solely on solar energy with the Guyana Fire Service confirming that the fire was electrical in nature stemming from a battery that came into contact with nearby combustible materials.
The blaze consumed everything in its path including household furnishings, appliances and cash that was being saved.
Chickens reared in the backyard also perished as a result of the intense heat.
“I had a lil saving of $200,000. That alone I had inside the house. All dah burn out. I have none right now. I have to work and a find a way to get lil help man make back one,” he explained.
