Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister with Responsibility for Public Affairs and Information, Kwame McCoy says the government will continue investing in Amerindian communities as part of its wider development agenda.

He was speaking at the Amerindian Heritage celebrations on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway on Sunday, where he joined President Dr. Irfaan Ali.

Joining hundreds who gathered at the Drepaul’s heritage celebrations, McCoy highlighted what he described as the achievements of Amerindians in various fields, including medicine, law, the security services, business and education.

“I want to remind you that this government has always had the back of our Amerindian people,” he said.

The Minister pointed to several housing projects along the Soesdyke-Linden corridor, including developments at St Cuthbert’s Mission, Hararuni , Yarrowkabra and Hyde Park.

We are also developing the 500 houses for single parent women, which will also be part of the housing stock. And we will not stop at anything until all our people have secured houses and homes that you can call your own,” he said.

McCoy also pointed to the planned Guyana Development Bank, saying it will provide additional opportunities for Amerindian entrepreneurs to pursue business ventures.

President Irfaan Ali also joined the celebrations, mingling with residents and taking part in the festivities while supporting local vendors.
