Guyana and Qatar are moving to strengthen bilateral relations, with a particular focus on investment and other areas of mutual interest.

The commitment came during official talks between President Dr. Irfaan Ali and the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, in Doha.

The two leaders met today at the Amir’s official workplace, where Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, welcomed President Ali and his delegation, who are in Qatar for a three-day State Visit.

The Amir expressed hope that the visit would further strengthen relations between the two countries and broaden opportunities for cooperation in ways that serve the interests of both nations.

During the bilateral meeting, the two sides discussed ways to expand cooperation, particularly in the area of investment.

President Ali and the Amir also exchanged views on the most prominent issues and developments.

The talks were attended by senior officials from both countries, following which the Amir hosted a luncheon in honour of President Ali and his delegation.

Since arriving in Doha, President Ali has held a series of meetings with senior Qatari officials.

Discussions focused on potential collaboration in the energy sector, cooperation between the Qatar Development Bank and Guyana Development Bank, as well as climate change, global biodiversity and partnerships in carbon credits.
