The data analysis for Guyana’s 2022 National Population and Housing Census is in its final stages, according to Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh.

The announcement was made during discussions on the recently concluded budget estimates, where opposition members inquired about the status of the census.

The minister reported that the fieldwork for the census has been completed, and efforts are currently focused on analyzing and verifying the data.

Additionally, work is progressing on the preparation of the final report, which is now at an advanced stage.

Dr. Singh acknowledged that challenges were encountered during data collection, particularly non-responsiveness from some households in various areas.

However, he emphasized that these obstacles were not unique to Guyana and assured that the government remains committed to ensuring the timely completion of the census report.

Authorities have urged the Bureau of Statistics to expedite the process so that preliminary findings can be made available as soon as possible.

Once finalized, the 2022 Census is expected to provide crucial insights into the country’s population size, age distribution, educational attainment, labor force composition, housing conditions, and other socio-economic factors.

The data will play a key role in shaping government policies and development strategies.

The completion of the census analysis will mark a significant step in understanding national demographic trends and supporting informed decision-making for Guyana’s future growth.
