Exploring Six-Lane Road Expansion and Enhancements in Transport Infrastructure

Minister of Public Works, Hon. Juan Edghill, announced that the government is exploring the possibility of expanding major roadways into six lanes to address growing traffic concerns.

The expansion is seen as a crucial step to accommodate the current traffic volume, which has far outgrown the existing roadway capacity.

During the “Ministerial Spotlight” program, Edghill highlighted the ongoing efforts to modernize Guyana’s infrastructure, noting the successes of expanding roads to four lanes and constructing new roads.

However, further discussions are in progress to determine the feasibility of even larger-scale expansions, such as the six-lane proposal.

The Minister also shared that in addition to road expansions, the ministry is exploring improvements to the country’s river transport systems to enhance connectivity and efficiency.

Edghill also emphasized that the construction of more roundabouts and overpasses is a part of the government’s plan to improve road safety and traffic flow.

“Overpasses are becoming a necessity,” he stated, underscoring the need for better infrastructure as the country continues its modernization efforts.
