The Bartica Community Centre was filled with energy on Monday as the Region 7 edition of the CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited-Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Championships took place, alongside the National School Teams and Singles event, sponsored by the Ministry of Education.
Over 30 student-athletes from Bartica Secondary, Three Mile Secondary, St. John the Baptist, St. Anthony’s, Two Miles, and Potato Primary schools participated in the competition, which featured boys’ and girls’ categories for ages 13 and under, as well as 15 and under.
Ulani Nurse of St. Anthony’s Primary and Samany Harrison of St. John the Baptist Primary were crowned champions in the 13-and-under girls’ and boys’ divisions, respectively.
In the 15-and-under categories, Rossanna Patterson of Bartica Secondary claimed the girls’ title, while Aiden Sheriff of Three Mile Secondary took the boys’ crown.
Sponsored by CNOOC, the event aims to promote the sport of table tennis across Guyana, fostering talent development and building regional capacity.
Senior Officer of Community Investment at CNOOC, Ian Chung, encouraged the players to strive for excellence, emphasizing the values of discipline, hard work, and sportsmanship.
This initiative is part of a nationwide program to promote table tennis as a key sport in schools and develop future champions.
