MVP Girls Under-11 Football Tournament a Success

The MVP Girls Under-11 football tournament concluded over the weekend, with Waramuri Primary emerging victorious and dethroning the 2023 champions, Marian Academy.

The final match, which ended in a penalty shootout, marked a thrilling finish to the competition.

Co-Director of the Petra organization, Troy Mendonca, praised the event as a significant milestone for women’s football in Guyana.

He noted that the tournament’s success showcases the growing potential and talent in the women’s football sector.

MVP Sports, the title sponsor, expressed their continued support for the development of the sport.

Owner Ian Ramdeo emphasized the importance of encouraging young female athletes to keep progressing and developing their skills.

Deputy Chief Education Officer, Marti De Souza, also expressed gratitude for the wide participation from schools across the country, noting that the event contributed to the advancement of women’s football in Guyana.

Marian Academy’s Haley Haberkorn, the tournament’s top goal scorer, was named the MVP despite her team’s loss in the penalty shootout.

Waramuri Primary triumphed 3-0 in the penalty phase, while St John the Baptist Primary secured third place by defeating Potaro Primary 2-0.

The tournament was sponsored by MVP Sports, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Sports, Tiger Rentals, V&V Distribution, and the Guyana Beverages Incorporated.
