The Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) officially launched its 2024-2025 year-end futsal tournament on Monday at the Retrieve Hard-court.
The event was attended by association executives, sponsors, and club representatives.
With two major football facilities in Linden currently under construction, this marks the second year the UDFA is hosting the year-end futsal tournament.
The competition will kick off on December 15 and will follow a round-robin format, with teams divided into four groups.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the quarterfinals, with group selection taking place over the weekend.
The tournament promises significant rewards for the winners, with the 1st place team receiving one million dollars in cash along with bragging rights.
The second-place team will take home $500,000, while the third and fourth-place teams will receive $200,000 and $100,000, respectively.
Additional trophies and prizes will also be awarded.
Sponsors for this year’s tournament include beverage company Banks DIH, Jai Signs, B. Harry Lumber Yard and General Store, the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, as well as Jagmohan and Jermine and Son Supermarket.
The tournament will be held over several dates: December 15, 18, 22, 26, 27, 29, with the grand finale scheduled for January 1, 2025.
