In a thrilling yet low-scoring encounter, the Essequibo Anacondas defeated the Berbice Caimans by two wickets in the ongoing GCB National T20 League at the Everest Cricket Ground, Camp Street.
The Caimans, sent into bat, struggled against a disciplined Anacondas bowling attack, managing only 98 runs in their 20 overs.
Jonte Thomas (26) and opener Sachin Balagobin (25) showed some resistance, but the rest of the Caimans lineup faltered, failing to build significant partnerships.
Abdul Ramsammy was the standout bowler for the Anacondas, claiming 4 wickets for just 16 runs in his four overs.
Captain Antony Adams also played a key role, taking 3 wickets for 20 runs, while Richie Looknauth contributed with 2 wickets for 21 runs.
The Anacondas’ chase was nerve-wracking as they lost 8 wickets on their way to the target.
However, Captain Adams guided the chase with a patient knock of 30 off 37 balls.
Orrin Gibson also played an important hand, contributing 29 runs off 32 balls.
The match was sealed in the 18th over when Ramnarine Chatura struck a boundary with a well-timed cut, finishing unbeaten on 7, and the Anacondas reached the target in 17.4 overs.
The National T20 League continues on Friday at the LBI Ground at 13:00 hours, with the Demerara Pitbulls facing the Essequibo Jaguars.
The League is sponsored by BetCageSport and endorsed by the Government of Guyana.
