Minister Deodat Indar has urged businesses and commercial operators to take responsibility for the disposal of their industrial waste, highlighting their role in illegal dumping across the country.
During a meeting with the Private Sector Commission, Minister Indar emphasized that waste from construction and commercial activities contributes significantly to the unsightly and unhealthy state of Georgetown and other areas.
The government is preparing for its 17th National Clean-up Campaign, but the Minister noted that these efforts are often undermined by repeated illegal dumping, leading to worsening conditions.
He stressed the need for a collective approach to achieve lasting behavioral change and maintain a clean and green environment.
In addition to the clean-up campaign, a public relations initiative will be launched to educate the public about the negative impacts of littering.
The Private Sector Commission has expressed support for the campaign and called for stricter enforcement and behavioral change.
