The Government of Guyana remains committed to supporting sister CARICOM states affected by Hurricane Beryl, announced Prime Minister Mark Phillips during a thanksgiving ceremony held yesterday afternoon.
The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) and Private Sector Commission have praised the extensive support for hurricane relief efforts.
Prime Minister Phillips emphasized the ongoing commitment, noting that the government recently received a list of needed items from Jamaica.
Relief items have already been dispatched to Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The relief supplies include essential food items such as rice, sugar, and flour, as well as building materials like timber.
Over the past five days, Guyana has assembled hundreds of tonnes of disaster relief supplies.
Prime Minister Phillips highlighted the tremendous response from the government, private sector, and other contributors, which exemplifies Guyana’s unwavering solidarity with its CARICOM neighbors during this critical time.
The value of the donations and purchases from the private sector and government is estimated to run into the hundreds of millions of Guyana dollars.
Since Hurricane Beryl ravaged the Caribbean, Guyana has sent two shipments of relief supplies.
This extensive support was initiated by President Irfaan Ali, showcasing the country’s commitment to aiding its regional partners in their time of need.
