In a concerted effort to enhance transparency and integrity within government agencies, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira, addressed a gathering of government officials at a Round Table Discussion focused on Ethical Behavior in the Public Service.
Minister Teixeira underscored the government’s commitment to fostering ethical conduct among public servants, emphasizing the imperative of upholding integrity and resisting situations that could compromise ethical standards.
She emphasized that while maintaining ethical standards might not always be popular, it is crucial for effective governance and public trust.
During her address, Teixeira highlighted the Anti-Corruption Framework as a pivotal initiative aimed at bolstering Guyana’s defenses against corruption.
The framework includes comprehensive guidelines and legal safeguards to protect public servants from unlawful instructions and ensure accountability in governance practices.
Teixeira also outlined ongoing efforts to update existing guidelines and booklets on ethical conduct and governance principles.
These updates aim to provide clearer directives and empower public servants with the necessary tools to navigate ethical dilemmas effectively.
The Round Table Discussion, attended by Permanent Secretaries, local government leaders, and other officials, served as a platform to reinforce ethical practices across various government sectors.
It underscored the government’s proactive stance in promoting transparency and ethical behavior as fundamental pillars of responsible governance in Guyana.
