In a significant milestone for Guyana’s oil and gas industry, the Guyana Technical Training College Inc. celebrated the graduation of its inaugural batch of 24 trainees on Friday in Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
The ceremony marked the culmination of a rigorous nine-month training program aimed at preparing technicians for roles in the offshore sector.
Comprising 19 males and 5 females, the graduates underwent specialized training, including on the Facility Stimulator (FacTor), equipping them with the necessary skills to work on complex Floating Production Storage and Offloading units (FPSOs) crucial to Guyana’s offshore oil operations.
The event was attended by key dignitaries including Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, who hailed the graduation as a historic achievement for local content development in the sector.
He emphasized the importance of Guyanese participation in the burgeoning oil industry, expressing pride in the country’s progress.
Alistair Routledge, President of ExxonMobil Guyana, commended the graduates on their dedication and underscored the industry’s commitment to nurturing skilled professionals.
He highlighted the role of such training programs in advancing Guyana’s capabilities within the offshore oil sector.
The presence of regional and industry leaders, including David Armogan, Regional Chairman of Region Six, and Martin Cheong, General Manager of SBM Offshore Guyana, underscored the collaborative effort towards enhancing local capacity in the oil and gas industry.
The graduation marks a pivotal moment in Guyana’s journey towards becoming a significant player in the global energy market, with trained local talent poised to contribute meaningfully to the sector’s growth.
