The Linden Technical Institute (LTI) secured the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Tertiary title after defeating the University of Guyana (UG) in a thrilling final at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
UG started strong, establishing a 21-12 lead in the first quarter and maintaining their dominance throughout the first half with a 42-36 advantage.
After halftime, LTI mounted a comeback, narrowing UG’s lead and setting the stage for a tense final quarter.
Despite three players fouling out for LTI compared to one for UG, LTI managed to take the lead in the dying minutes of the game.
The final whistle sealed LTI’s victory with a score of 79-70, crowning them champions.
Kemol Grimmond, captain of Linden Technical Institute, was named MVP of the tournament and expressed his team’s resilience and determination in securing the win.
Warren Wilson, Head Coach of UG, commended his team’s effort despite the hard-fought loss, noting the improvement from their previous encounters with LTI.
The YBG Tertiary Basketball League, sponsored by G-boot Guyana and Beharry Limited, showcased intense competition and sportsmanship among the tertiary institutions.
