The final preliminary matches of the Youth Basketball Guyana’s Tertiary League concluded with Linden Technical Institute (LTI), New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI), and University of Guyana (UG) securing victories in thrilling encounters.
Linden Technical Institute continued their unbeaten streak in the league by defeating Guyana School of Agriculture 72-60.
Captain Kemol Grimmond showcased a stellar performance with 32 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.
Grimmond emphasized the team’s cohesion and defensive strategy, underscoring their goal to maintain dominance throughout the competition.
New Amsterdam Technical Institute narrowly edged out Upper Corentyne Combined 52-50 in a closely contested match.
NATI led 27-24 at halftime, but Upper Corentyne Combined fought back strongly in the second half.
However, NATI managed to hold onto their lead and secure the victory.
In the most thrilling match of the day, University of Guyana clinched a nail-biting victory over Government Technical Institute (GTI) with a score of 61-60.
Despite GTI’s strong start and leading 35-29 at halftime, UG rallied in the second half with effective offensive plays and solid defense.
Jushawn Bailey was instrumental for UG, scoring a game-high 34 points, including a crucial three-pointer at the buzzer to seal the win.
With these wins, LTI, NATI, and UG concluded their preliminary campaigns on a high note, setting the stage for intense semi-final action scheduled for Sunday in the Youth Basketball Guyana’s Tertiary League.
