In a dominating performance, Afghanistan secured a resounding victory over debutants Uganda by a massive 125-run margin, placing them at the top of Group C with a superior net run-rate.
At the post-match press conference, Afghanistan’s head coach, Jonathan Trott, expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance in their opening match.
Trott emphasized the importance of starting the tournament well and commended the opening partnership for setting a strong platform.
However, he also noted areas for improvement, stating that there are still aspects of the game that Afghanistan can enhance as they progress in the tournament.
On the other hand, Uganda’s skipper, Brian Masaba, reflected on his team’s performance and admitted that their execution in both batting and bowling departments fell short of expectations.
Masaba acknowledged that conceding too many boundaries proved costly against a formidable opponent like Afghanistan and stressed the need for better execution of their plans in future matches.
Afghanistan is set to face New Zealand next on Friday at 20:30, while Uganda will take on the West Indies on Saturday at 21:30.
