Novice Tennis Talents Shine at Inaugural GTA Championship

The Guyana Tennis Association recently concluded its Inaugural Novice Championship at the National Racquet Center, where Immanuel Baker, Osafa Dos Santos, and Tisel Patterson emerged as champions in their respective categories.

The tournament, which spanned one week, brought together both aspiring athletes and seasoned players, showcasing a week of intense matches and spirited competition across three categories: Men’s Intermediate, Men’s Beginner, and Ladies Beginner.

In the Men’s Intermediate category, Immanuel Baker secured the championship title with a series of powerful performances, while Robert Edwards finished as the runner-up after putting up a strong fight.

Osafa Dos Santos claimed the top spot in the Men’s Beginner championship, demonstrating remarkable skill and determination throughout the matches.

Nkofi Hodge showed great promise but ultimately finished as the runner-up in the category.

The Ladies’ Beginner championship witnessed an exciting finale, with Tisel Patterson emerging as the champion with exceptional play.

Despite a good effort, Justine Kennedy finished as the runner-up in the women’s division.

Garvin Lewis, the Public Relations Officer of the GTA, praised the tournament’s success, stating that it set a high standard for future events.

He emphasized the platform it provided for aspiring tennis players to strive and grow in the sport, noting the impressive level of sportsmanship displayed by the participants.

Looking ahead, Lewis mentioned that the GTA plans to host a doubles tournament, with an announcement forthcoming.

The tournament received support from the National Sports Commission through the Ministry of Sport.

Overall, the Inaugural Novice Championship marked a significant milestone for tennis in Guyana, showcasing talent and enthusiasm among players at all levels of expertise.
