The Ministry of Labour has announced the successful reduction of labour disputes and complaints across Guyana, a feat that will now be further bolstered by the launch of a new mobile application.
The “Labour Advice” app aims to streamline the process of reporting and resolving labour issues, enhancing the Ministry’s ongoing efforts.
During the official launch ceremony for the Labour Market Information System, Labour Minister Joseph Hamilton described the introduction of the app as a monumental step in their mission to provide relief to workers.
Minister Hamilton highlighted the Ministry’s success in recovering over $150 million for employees from employers over the past four years, attributing this achievement to the diligent work of the Chief Labour Officer and his team.
Minister Hamilton emphasized the importance of utilizing the Ministry’s services, noting that many complaints go unreported, leading to a perception that no action is being taken.
He urged citizens to make use of the new app to ensure their issues are documented and addressed promptly.
Chief Labour Officer Dhaneshwar Deonarine provided further insight into the Ministry’s progress, noting a significant decrease in labour complaints.
In 2023, there was a 14% reduction in complaints compared to 2022.
This trend has continued into 2024, with a 27% decline in complaints received from January to May compared to the same period in 2023.
The “Labour Advice” app, developed by the National Data Management Authority, is part of the Ministry’s broader Computerized Information Management System.
The app is designed to provide a convenient and efficient way for employees to record complaints and seek assistance when necessary.
The Ministry of Labour continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving labour relations and providing effective support to workers across Guyana.
