Guyana’s Youth Environmental Speaker Competition Gears Up for Next Round

By Fabiana McKlmon

The search for Guyana’s next Youth Environmental Speaker is heating up!

After receiving a flood of video submissions from passionate young environmentalists, the competition, known as “SHOUT 2.0,” has narrowed it down to 30 finalists.

Dr. Omesh Balmacoon, Competition Lead for Shout 2.0, explained the selection process.

Judges evaluated the videos based on factors like presentation style, environmental knowledge, and the feasibility of the proposed project ideas.

The competition doesn’t stop here! These 30 students will now face three more phases, all happening on June 5th.

The first phase will involve a live-streamed event on the Recover Guyana Facebook page, allowing the public to witness the excitement firsthand.

Phase two will test the students’ prepared speeches, while phase three throws a curveball with an impromptu speaking segment.

Only the top 10 will advance to phase four, the ultimate challenge – a question round that will determine Guyana’s Youth Environmental Speaker for 2024.

This initiative by Recover Guyana and the Ministry of Education aims to empower young people to take action on environmental issues.

By participating in Shout 2.0, these students gain valuable skills and a platform to advocate for a greener Guyana.
