Golden Jags End Winless in Port of Spain Friendly Matches

By Eric Collymore

The Guyana senior men’s football team, known as the Golden Jags, concluded their international friendly matches in Port of Spain without securing a win.

The team lost 2-0 to the Trinidad and Tobago Soca Warriors on Wednesday night, marking the end of their two-match series.

Despite hopes for a positive finish after their 2-1 loss on Monday, the Golden Jags were unable to convert their efforts into goals.

Both teams attacked vigorously in the first half but failed to score.

The Soca Warriors missed an early second-half opportunity when Duane Muckette’s header went wide.

The breakthrough for Trinidad and Tobago came in the 53rd minute due to a defensive error by the Golden Jags, allowing Michel Poon-Angeron to score.

The Soca Warriors continued to press forward, and another defensive mistake by the Guyanese team in the 77th minute saw Kevon Woodley secure the second goal for Trinidad and Tobago.

Head Coach Jamaal Shabazz expressed disappointment with the results but noted several takeaways from the matches.

Despite the losses, Shabazz praised the team’s effort and emphasized the need for improved finishing and capitalizing on created chances.

The Golden Jags will now focus on their upcoming World Cup qualifiers, where they will face Panama and Belize on June 6th and 11th, respectively.
