The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Regional Health Services Department in Region Six, is ramping up efforts to tackle the surge in mosquito-borne diseases, particularly dengue fever.
Officials from the Ministry of Health, together with the Regional Democratic Council, convened meetings with Neighborhood Democratic Councils and Municipalities across Region Six to devise a comprehensive strategy to address the alarming rise in dengue cases.
Dr. Vishwa Mahadeo, Director General at the Ministry of Health, disclosed that Region Six has reported the highest number of confirmed dengue cases thus far, necessitating urgent action to combat the viral infection.
Dr. Mahadeo emphasized the importance of preventive measures to control the mosquito vector responsible for spreading dengue.
The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the regional health department, will undertake various steps, including intensified fogging operations and community awareness campaigns.
Citizens are urged to cover food items and keep windows and doors closed to prevent mosquitoes from entering their homes.
A specialized team comprising officials from the vector control department and the Environment Health Officer will conduct inspections in communities to identify areas requiring abate and larvicide treatment.
Furthermore, fumigation will be carried out both internally and externally in public buildings and private residences to eradicate mosquito breeding grounds.
Dr. Mahadeo expressed confidence that these concerted efforts will lead to a reduction in the mosquito population across the region.
He called upon citizens to cooperate with health workers and play their part in curbing the spread of mosquitoes by adhering to preventive measures and promptly reporting any symptoms of dengue fever.
As the Ministry of Health intensifies its efforts to combat dengue, collaborative action from both health authorities and the community will be crucial in mitigating the impact of mosquito-borne diseases in Region Six.
