Berbice Triumphs Over Essequibo in GCB Women’s T20 U-19 Inter-county Tournament

In a thrilling match at the MalteeNOES Sports Club ground, Berbice emerged victorious over Essequibo in the Guyana Cricket Board’s Women’s T20 Under 19 inter-county tournament.

Batting first, the Essequibo team was dismissed for 90 runs in 16.4 overs.

Crystal Durant led the attack, claiming 2 wickets for 11 runs from 2.4 overs, while Trisha Hardat also contributed with two wickets for 25 runs.

Realenna Grimmond, Tiea Isaacs, and Danellie Manns each claimed one wicket apiece.

Top scorers for Essequibo included Latoya Williams (15), Ashanti Mohamed (14), Tremaine Marks (13), and Briana Samaroo (11).

Chasing a target of 91 runs, Berbice showed resilience as opener Crystal Durant anchored the innings with an unbeaten 26 runs from 45 balls.

She found support from Trisha Hardat, who played a crucial role in seeing the match through to its conclusion.

Bowling for Essequibo, Tremaine Marks claimed two wickets for 15 runs in her four overs, while Lauren Williams and Qzel Sampson took one wicket each.

Reflecting on the victory, head coach of the Berbice team, Winston Smith, expressed confidence in his players and their ability to perform under pressure.

In contrast, Antony Adams, coach of the Essequibo team, attributed their loss to the high number of extras conceded, emphasizing the need for continuous practice to improve.

With this victory, Berbice demonstrated their strength in the GCB Women’s T20 U-19 Inter-county tournament, setting the stage for further exciting cricketing action.
