Guyana Thrashes Windwards to Finish Second

By Travis Seymour

In the final match of their regional T20 campaign, the Guyana women’s cricket team secured a convincing 69-run victory over the Windward Islands at Warner Park in St Kitts.

Mandy Mangru and Kaysia Schultz played pivotal roles with both bat and ball to guide Guyana to a resounding win.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Guyana faced early setbacks with the dismissals of Shabika Gajnabi (5) and Cherry-Ann Fraser (14).

However, Mandy Mangru’s impressive innings of 51 runs off 50 balls and Shermaine Campbelle’s quickfire 47 off 43 balls propelled Guyana to a solid total of 131 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Mangru remained unbeaten on 51, while Windward’s Pearl Etienne was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 for 18 from her four overs.

In their chase, Windward Islands managed only 21 runs at the top of the order from Zaida James, with Kimone Homer contributing 11.

However, they struggled against Guyana’s bowling attack, particularly Kaysia Schultz, who wreaked havoc with figures of 5 for 14.

Plaffiana Millington (2 for 7) and Niya Latchman (2 for 12) also made significant contributions to Windward’s collapse, with Cherry-Ann Fraser claiming one wicket.

With this victory, Guyana secured their third win of the T20 competition, finishing second in the standings with 13 points from five outings.

Trinidad and Tobago claimed third place with nine points, while Jamaica, led by Stefanie Taylor, dominated the tournament with an unbeaten record, securing the top spot with 22 points from five wins.

Jamaica’s final victory came against the Leeward Islands women, sealing their dominance in the CWI Women’s T20 Blaze Title with a comprehensive eight-wicket win on Monday.
