The Region Ten Tourism Committee (RTTC) is intensifying its efforts to position Region Ten as a leading tourism destination with the launch of its capacity-building project.
This initiative took shape during the unveiling of the committee’s new office on Washer Pond Road, marking a significant milestone in the region’s tourism development journey.
Supported by sponsorship from the Greater Guyana Initiative (GGI), the RTTC received funding to kickstart its tourism capacity-building and skill enhancement program.
Rawle Dundas, Vice Chairman of the RTTC and Project Coordinator, emphasized that the project aims to elevate tourism activities in the region by implementing training programs designed to transform mindsets, behaviors, and standards.
Dundas underscored the importance of ensuring the sustainability of the project beyond its initial phase, envisioning its long-term impact on the region’s prosperity and growth.
Devin Sears, Chairman of the RTTC, highlighted Guyana’s global recognition as the top eco-tourism destination and emphasized Region Ten’s commitment to leveraging its tourism potential.
He outlined various initiatives in the pipeline, including marketing and branding, riverfront development, and sports and entertainment, aimed at bolstering tourism in the region.
Susan Scott, a representative of GGI, expressed the organization’s alignment with the project’s mission and emphasized its commitment to supporting regional economic development.
This initiative marks GGI’s third community development endeavor in the region, following the launch of a hydroponic agriculture project and a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program.
Omodele George, President of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), commended the RTTC for its proactive steps in advancing tourism and pledged THAG’s support to the committee’s endeavors.
Additionally, Sharma Solomon, Mayor of Linden, lauded the collaborative efforts to enhance tourism, recognizing its pivotal role in the town’s growth and development.
Through the partnership with GGI, the RTTC office received a new minibus to facilitate its operations, underscoring the commitment to bolstering tourism infrastructure in the region.
The launch of the capacity-building project and the inauguration of the RTTC office signify a significant stride towards enhancing tourism in Region Ten, setting the stage for sustainable growth and development in the region.
