ORAL ARGUMENTS BEGIN IN ELECTION PETITION APPEAL.

The Court of Appeal heard oral arguments in the appeal filed by the main opposition APNU+AFC to the dismissal of one of its two petitions, challenging the 2020 election.

Attorney General Anil Nandlall and Douglas Mendes, who is representing the State and Vice-President, Bharrat Jagdeo, respectively, argued that the court had no jurisdiction to entertain the petition.

Both attorneys contend that since the petition was dismissed, it cannot be appealed and the Court would be acting outside of its jurisdiction should it entertain the petition.

But Attorney Roysdale Forde, who is representing the APNU+AFC, asked for the decision to be set aside by the Court, maintaining that the Chief Justice erred in her ruling.

Those arguments will continue on July 29, at 9 hours 30.
