Zhejiang Wu Opera Mesmerizes Guyanese Audience with Cultural Extravaganza

A spectacular performance of Wu Opera by a talented troupe from Zhejiang Wu Opera Research Center, East China, captivated the audience in Guyana on Tuesday night.

The event, held at the National Cultural Centre, showcased the rich cultural heritage of China through a vibrant display of traditional Chinese dramas, music compositions, dance, and acrobatics.

Chinese opera artistes hailing from Zhejiang province delivered an electrifying performance as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cultural exchanges between China and Guyana.

Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport, Charles Ramson Jnr, described the event as a significant cultural masterpiece that reinforces the strong bond between the two nations.

Minister Ramson expressed his satisfaction with the production and highlighted the collaborative efforts with the Embassy of China and the Chinese Ambassador, emphasizing the event’s significance.

Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Guo Haiyan, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange in fostering understanding between nations.

Ambassador Haiyan expressed the belief that the friendship between China and Guyana lies in people-to-people relations, and cultural events play a crucial role in promoting this understanding.

As the curtains fell, the Zhejiang Wu Opera troupe left a lasting impression with their burst of vibrant colors, intricate costumes, and traditional Chinese music.

The performances, representing various historical periods, showcased a plethora of talents and skills, including classic Wu Opera acts, remarkable vocal performances, and mesmerizing portrayals of characters.

The event, jointly sponsored by the Chinese Embassy in Guyana and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, received praise for its contribution to deepening ties between the two nations.

The Zhejiang Wu Opera troupe is set to perform again, continuing to share the beauty of Chinese culture with the Guyanese audience.
