On Good Friday, congregants from various churches nationwide will gather at Soesdyke Junction to commemorate the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and reflect on its profound significance for humanity.

The Zadok Ministers Fellowship Church is hosting the Day of Atonement event, scheduled to commence at 3 pm.

Reverend Saheed Suleman emphasizes that this day is dedicated to observing the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who died for the sins of the world.

He highlights the belief that through Jesus Christ’s finished work on the cross, forgiveness of sins is attainable for all who accept Him.

Bishop Terry Thomas, noting the symbolic significance of the event, encourages widespread participation, stating that the gathering represents a plea for God’s mercy on the nation.

He stresses the importance of spiritual development alongside economic growth, envisioning Guyana as a model nation.

The event will feature various speakers, including Bishop Juan Edghill, alongside musical performances, dances, and the breaking of bread.

Historically known as Yom Kippur in the Jewish tradition, the Day of Atonement was marked by the sacrifice of a lamb for the purging of sins.

However, Reverend Suleman explains that Jesus Christ replaced the need for animal sacrifices, making Good Friday a day to celebrate His sacrifice.

This sacred day, characterized by fasting, prayer, and introspection, holds immense significance in both Christian and Jewish faiths.
