{"id":32961,"date":"2026-11-06T19:03:48","date_gmt":"2026-11-06T23:03:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=32961"},"modified":"2026-11-06T19:03:48","modified_gmt":"2026-11-06T23:03:48","slug":"1-16-billion-amerindian-hostel-being-constructed-at-ogle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/1-16-billion-amerindian-hostel-being-constructed-at-ogle\/","title":{"rendered":"$1.16 Billion Amerindian Hostel being constructed at Ogle"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-by Celestine Chacon <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Government&nbsp;broke&nbsp;ground for the construction of a new $1.16 billion Amerindian Hostel located at Ogle, East Coast of Demerara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-35-768x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32962\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-35-768x1024.png 768w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-35-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-35.png 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project follows a commitment made by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali at a public meeting in Maraikobai where he announced that construction would begin following the PPP\/C&#8217;s return to office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-36-768x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32963\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-36-768x1024.png 768w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-36-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-36.png 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking at the official&nbsp;sod-turning ceremony, Minister of Amerindian Affairs Sarah Browne-Shadeeek said the project represents a new chapter in providing care, comfort and dignity to Indigenous people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>Today we are not simply turning a sod for the construction of a new building, but we are turning the sod for a new chapter in the delivery of care, comfort, dignity, and essential services to Indigenous and hinterland people,\u201d<\/strong> she said. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-37-768x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32964\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-37-768x1024.png 768w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-37-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-37-1152x1536.png 1152w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-37.png 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The existing hostel, constructed in 1972, has served thousands of residents over the past five decades who travel to Georgetown for medical treatment and other essential services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Minister disclosed that the facility assisted 257 persons last month and provides support to approximately 2,500 people annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She noted that while healthcare services continue to expand across hinterland regions, some residents still need to travel to Georgetown for specialized\u00a0medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are laying the foundation for something that will serve generations of our people, generations who will come to Georgetown in pursuit of medical care, education opportunities, and other essential services.
