{"id":32828,"date":"2026-11-02T12:06:08","date_gmt":"2026-11-02T16:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=32828"},"modified":"2026-11-02T12:06:08","modified_gmt":"2026-11-02T16:06:08","slug":"mohamed-duo-remains-on-bail-in-extradition-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/mohamed-duo-remains-on-bail-in-extradition-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Mohamed duo remains on bail in extradition case"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman has ruled that bail will remain in place for Azruddin Mohamed and his father, Nazar Mohamed, in their ongoing extradition proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ruling followed an application by prosecutor Terrence Williams, who raised concerns about alleged witness intimidation and other conduct involving the two men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In delivering her decision on Monday, Magistrate Latchman acknowledged that the court has the authority to vary or revoke bail conditions but said allegations of past misconduct or pending criminal charges, without a conviction, were insufficient grounds to revoke bail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She explained that should either person be convicted of an offence while the extradition proceedings remain ongoing, that conviction could be considered in any subsequent application to revoke bail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court consequently maintained the existing bail arrangements for both men in the extradition matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Azruddin Mohamed remains on remand in connection with a separate criminal matter involving an alleged G$800,000 payment to a police constable for surveillance footage.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-post-featured-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"798\" height=\"523\" src=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-2.png\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"object-fit:cover;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-2.png 798w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-2-300x197.png 300w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-2-768x503.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 798px) 100vw, 798px\" \/><\/figure>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman has ruled that bail will remain in place for Azruddin Mohamed and his father, Nazar Mohamed, in their ongoing extradition proceedings.
