The indictment alleges the use of falsified documents and government seals in transactions involving more than 10,000 kilograms of gold.

But while that extradition battle continues, Azruddin now faces a separate criminal case in Guyana.
He, along with his driver Eugene Thorne and videographer Mario Mohamed, was recently charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and attempting to pervert the course of justice. All three pleaded not guilty.
Nandlall explained that earlier charges brought by the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) against Azruddin and Nazar Mohamed over alleged tax irregularities involving billions of dollars in gold exports were withdrawn because of their connection to the US indictment.

Separate customs charges against Azruddin over the alleged undervaluation of an imported Lamborghini were also discontinued in November 2025.
However, the Attorney General made it clear that the latest criminal allegations are entirely separate and cannot be dismissed simply because extradition proceedings are underway.
He rejected suggestions of political interference, stressing that the charges followed police investigations and advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), not instructions from the government.

Nandlall maintained that no individual should be allowed to violate Guyana’s laws with impunity while facing extradition.
He further explained that if convicted locally, the authorities would have to determine whether the individual must first serve a sentence in Guyana before being surrendered to the United States.

-by Celestine Chacon Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall has delivered a firm warning that extradition proceedings cannot be used as a shield against criminal prosecution in…

[469,350
488,493,775,448,412,405
post-32646","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-legal-affairs","category-news","tag-488","tag-extradition","tag-ministry-of-legal-affairs","tag-ncn","tag-ncn-guyana","tag-ncn-news
["GET
