{"id":32187,"date":"2026-10-01T19:59:03","date_gmt":"2026-10-01T23:59:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=32187"},"modified":"2026-10-01T19:59:03","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T23:59:03","slug":"30-more-guyanese-to-begin-oil-and-gas-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/30-more-guyanese-to-begin-oil-and-gas-training\/","title":{"rendered":"30 more Guyanese to begin oil and gas training\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;&nbsp;<strong>A<\/strong><strong>t GTTCI<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-by Kyler Rollins <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Guyana Technical Training College is preparing to welcome another batch of 30 trainees&nbsp;on October&nbsp;Five,&nbsp;as&nbsp;it&nbsp;continues to equip Guyanese with the skills to work aboard Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Director&nbsp;of the College,&nbsp;Professor Clement Sankat,&nbsp;described the initiative as significant, noting that it represents the second cohort of trainees to receive comprehensive training entirely in Guyana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In&nbsp;the past, trainees were required to spend 12 months in Canada before returning to Guyana to complete their experiential training at the Facility Stimulator (FACTOR) in Port Mourant, Corentyne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But with the GTTCI campus now equipped with the necessary facilities and equipment, trainees can complete the entire program in Guyana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>We will be training\u00a0students for working in the oil and gas industry in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and production. And when they are\u00a0finished\u00a0they will be placed on the FPSOs working offshore<\/strong>,\u201d Professor Sankat explained. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After&nbsp;successfully completing&nbsp;the program, trainees will graduate with an Advanced Diploma in Oil and Gas, specialising in either Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Production disciplines.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This follows ongoing discussions with the UK\u2013based accrediting body, City &amp; Guilds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Sankat says&nbsp;several Guyanese instructors are also expected to be trained as trainers, strengthening local capacity within the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, construction is progressing on a new dormitory facility on campus, which will be able to accommodate up to 100 students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>Because this thing is for students all over Guyana.
