Ali woos Diaspora with new investment vehicle"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-by David Clarke<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guyanese living abroad are being encouraged to play a greater role in the country&#8217;s economic development, with the government preparing new mechanisms to attract diaspora investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Dr. Irfaan Ali says Guyana&#8217;s expanding economy is creating opportunities for both Guyanese at home and those living overseas. He says the government is also preparing an investment vehicle specifically aimed at mobilizing resources from the diaspora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;<strong>Guyana tomorrow is going to create enough opportunities for Guyanese at home and Guyanese in the diaspora<\/strong>. <strong>I said that we must, and it should and opportunities are also available for you to ask for<\/strong>. <strong>But we are going to launch, very soon, a special investment vehicle to mobilize resources in the diaspora<\/strong>,&#8221; <\/em>he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The President says the initiative will provide an avenue for members of the diaspora to invest in Guyana, with the government expected to provide guaranteed returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ali also pointed to growing interest among Guyanese abroad in returning to the country, including for pension applications and visits. He says the government wants to build on that connection by making it easier for the diaspora to participate in Guyana&#8217;s development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<strong><em>We are working now on digitizing government services. I don&#8217;t know how many of you here went back recently and went to one of our government service centers. You can tell about the type of service you got<\/em><\/strong>,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government is also pursuing digital systems that would allow Guyanese overseas to conduct government business remotely, including through a planned digital platform and national payment system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>-by David Clarke Guyanese living abroad are being encouraged to play a greater role in the country&#8217;s economic development, with the government preparing new mechanisms to attract diaspora investment.
