The Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning is continuing consultations with stakeholders as part of its ongoing review and modernisation of Guyana\u2019s labour laws, with civil society and the education sector among those engaged in recent discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, September 16, the Ministry met with representatives of the Society Against Sexual Orientation Discrimination (SASOD), providing an opportunity for dialogue on issues relevant to Guyana\u2019s labour and employment framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The engagement forms part of a wider consultation process aimed at gathering perspectives and recommendations from different sectors to help shape the review of existing labour legislation and support the development of a modern and responsive framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The consultation process continued on Friday, September 18, with representatives from the education sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consultant Her Excellency Deborah Thomas-Felix and other Ministry officials met with Dr. Ritesh Tularam, Deputy Chief Education Officer \u2013 Technical, and other officials from the Ministry of Education to discuss issues relevant to the sector and gather input to inform the ongoing review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry has been engaging stakeholders across various areas as it works to assess the country’s existing labour laws and identify areas for modernization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Civil society organisations and other stakeholders are also being encouraged to participate in the process by contacting the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning to share their views, recommendations and concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry says broad stakeholder participation is important to ensuring that the modernization of the labour sector takes into account the experiences and perspectives of those affected by the country’s labour and employment framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
