{"id":31894,"date":"2026-09-14T18:10:36","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T22:10:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=31894"},"modified":"2026-09-14T18:10:36","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T22:10:36","slug":"indigenous-youth-urged-to-turn-culture-technology-into-economic-opportunities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/indigenous-youth-urged-to-turn-culture-technology-into-economic-opportunities\/","title":{"rendered":"Indigenous Youth urged to turn culture, technology into economic opportunities"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-by David Clarke<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indigenous youth are being encouraged to look beyond traditional economic activities and explore technology, tourism and cultural entrepreneurship as pathways to economic independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The call comes as access to financing through the Guyana Development Bank is expected to create new opportunities for young entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indigenous leader Lennox Shuman says the Guyana Development Bank could provide an important boost to young entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<strong>Young people only need to start instead of, and I don&#8217;t want to sound too derogatory with this, but instead of running TikTok and creating financing for other people based on views, why don&#8217;t we start occupying some of these tech spaces?\u201d<\/strong> he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tourism is another area he believes can offer significant opportunities, particularly by developing speexperiences rather than competing in already crowded markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<strong>When we look at tourism, it cannot be looked at as a stock approach. We have to find the niches where people want to come, they want variety, and you offer that variet<\/strong>y,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shuman says Indigenous youth should look at these opportunities together, using education to build skills, financing to establish businesses, and technology to reach markets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>-by David Clarke Indigenous youth are being encouraged to look beyond traditional economic activities and explore technology, tourism and cultural entrepreneurship as pathways to economic independence.
