Regent Household Electronics store was this afternoon completely destroyed by fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It comes seventeen years after another fire destroyed the said business located at 143, Regent Street Bourda between Light and Albert Streets Georgetown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fire fighters this afternoon worked double time to extinguish a massive inferno at business establishment Regent Household Electronics on Regent Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Fire Chief Dwayne Scotland told NCN News that the fire service responded to the call shortly before 2 PM on Wednesday, arriving within minutes surrounded the building and went into firefighting mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At that time fire was visible at the top floor of the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have seven vehicles on the ground, we would have surrounded the fire, so far we have extinguished the fire and we are mopping up the scene.<\/strong> If you look behind me you could see that the Western end of the building has collapsed, even though that has happened we have still contained the fire to the one building and so there is no threat or fire spread to other buildings<\/strong>,\u201d he said.

Scotland noted that open water source and hydrants played a significant role in battling the blaze along with the support from the police, allowing them to work without interference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have water from the hydrants, GWI would have beefed up the supply for us, we would have had support from the Guyana police force  managing crowd control<\/strong>,\u201d he said.
The Guyana Fire Service has also come in for high commendation by the Mayor of Georgetown Alfred Mentore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI must commend the fire police for containing this fire here, it was kept within a small square and they have done a fabulous job to be able to contain it<\/strong>,\u201d Mentore said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seventeen years ago, the business was completely destroyed by a fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking briefly with NCN News, Shaeed Hamid recalled that the first fire took place in 2009. When asked about his staff, he confirmed that everyone was accounted for after the blaze broke out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An investigation is set to begin as soon as firefighters finish their work at the scene, in order to determine the cause and origin of the fire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
