{"id":31536,"date":"2026-08-21T20:43:02","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T00:43:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=31536"},"modified":"2026-08-21T20:43:02","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T00:43:02","slug":"empowering-plwds-through-skills-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/empowering-plwds-through-skills-training\/","title":{"rendered":"Empowering PLWDs through skills training"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-by Shamiah Grant<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More&nbsp;Persons Living With Disabilities&nbsp;are being empowered through skill training programmes offered by the Ministry of&nbsp;Human&nbsp;Services and Social Security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among them is Grace Beverly Goodridge, who despite being in a wheelchair, is becoming an expert makeup artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grace says she is learning more about the&nbsp;proper application techniques for foundations and other beauty products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>Right now, I am learning the different types of make-up concerning your face the&nbsp;eye brow, the contour I enjoy doing it I learn a lot the different type of things to use on your face,\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She&nbsp;is&nbsp;also encouraging&nbsp;more persons living with disabilities to take advantage of the opportunity&nbsp;to improve their skills.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the ministry continues to expand its training programmes to include more skill sets, especially those in high demand, such as carpentry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Minister Vindhya Persaud&nbsp;recently announced the start of&nbsp;carpentry training in region 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She says the training is open to&nbsp;both men and women, who are&nbsp;eager to develop trade skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>This is free training for males and females and has the UK and City Guilds certifications, I want to make sure that you get on\u00a0board\u00a0and you do this training, there will be many\u2026 more opportunities<\/strong>,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The five-day training began today\u00a0August\u00a021\u00a0at the Linden Technical Institute.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>-by Shamiah Grant More&nbsp;Persons Living With Disabilities&nbsp;are being empowered through skill training programmes offered by the Ministry of&nbsp;Human&nbsp;Services and Social Security.
