{"id":31516,"date":"2026-08-20T21:45:41","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T01:45:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=31516"},"modified":"2026-08-20T22:25:40","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T02:25:40","slug":"ministry-of-health-urges-guyanese-to-beat-the-heat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/ministry-of-health-urges-guyanese-to-beat-the-heat\/","title":{"rendered":"Ministry of Health urges Guyanese to beat the heat"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-as hotter days loom<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-by Celestine Chacon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With Guyana preparing for hotter-than-usual days as a result of the&nbsp;prevailing&nbsp;El Ni\u00f1o&nbsp;conditions, the Ministry of Health has issued a series of environmental health briefs encouraging citizens to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and beat the heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to ministry,&nbsp;during&nbsp;periods of extreme heat, working outdoors combined with high humidity can place additional stress on the body.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prolonged exposure can&nbsp;also&nbsp;increase the risk of heat stress and other heat-related illnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hydromet&nbsp;Office&nbsp;has&nbsp;warned Guyanese to prepare for hotter days ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>As a result of the existing&nbsp;El Nino&nbsp;and the developing el Ni\u00f1o we are likely to experience up to 80 hot spell days, they are serious implications of that<\/strong>,\u201d Specialist meteorologist, Komalchand Dhiram said recently. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the unexpected heat,&nbsp;The Ministry of Health advises parents, to dress children in lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, provide hats for their protection and apply sunscreen can help keep them comfortable and protected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parents should also encourage children to take frequent small sips of water and offer hydrating fruits such as&nbsp;watermelon and oranges.
