{"id":31514,"date":"2026-08-20T22:02:03","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T02:02:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=31514"},"modified":"2026-08-20T22:02:03","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T02:02:03","slug":"govt-says-50-per-cent-electricity-cost-reduction-to-be-implemented-in-phases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/govt-says-50-per-cent-electricity-cost-reduction-to-be-implemented-in-phases\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t says 50 per cent electricity cost reduction to be implemented in phases"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-by David Clarke <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Government\u2019s&nbsp;commitment to cutting&nbsp;electricity costs by 50 percent remains on track, but the reduction will be introduced in phases, with communities benefiting from renewable-energy&nbsp;projects&nbsp;expected to see further reductions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Irfaan Ali says several communities have already benefited, while others are being assessed for similar reductions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>One of the things that we have committed to in the manifesto is the reduction in the cost of electricity, to bring it down by 50% for consumers across the country<\/strong>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For communities where renewable energy infrastructure is already in place, the Government says lower electricity costs are beginning to become a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Solar installations and battery-storage systems are being used to support the power supply in several areas, particularly in the hinterland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWe have started, especially in areas where we had the solar installation and where we had the battery backup system.
