Singh’s daughter, Donna Singh-Ramsammy, accepted the posthumous honour, reflecting on a career built on sacrifice, service and an unwavering commitment to truth.

“This would have been an emotional moment, not simply because he was being recognized, but because he would have understood what this honor represents. Decades of sacrifice and service to one of democracy’s essential pillars, the right to seek the truth, tell the truth, and to hold power to account,” she said.

Another Caribbean media giant, Professor Aggrey Brown, was also inducted into the Hall of Fame, recognised for his contribution to Caribbean broadcasting, communication and media development.

But the evening was not only about celebrating the past. Belizean journalist Jules Vasquez became the first recipient of the Caribbean Defender of Media Freedom Award, turning the spotlight on the continuing fight to protect independent journalism.

“Why does it matter? Why must we champion those who play that role? It matters because news is a public utility, just as important as water or electricity. A modern democratic society cannot survive without it. We provide the oxygen that makes democracy breathe. Those who define and defend that space, to our colleagues, I say respect,” he said.

After a decade away, the CBU’s return to Guyana is therefore more than a homecoming.

It is a celebration of those who paved the way and a challenge to a new generation of Caribbean journalists to keep asking difficult questions, defending the truth and holding power to account.

-at 57th CBU Annual General Assembly -by NaAsia Bristol A homecoming for Caribbean media and a tribute to those who helped shape it… As the Caribbean Broadcasting Union’s Annual General…

[350
488,1216,370,1217,412,405
post-31486","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-488","tag-caribbean-media","tag-guyana","tag-journalism","tag-ncn-guyana","tag-ncn-news
["GET
