{"id":31421,"date":"2026-08-15T19:20:16","date_gmt":"2026-08-15T23:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=31421"},"modified":"2026-08-15T19:20:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T23:20:16","slug":"canu-destroys-more-than-429-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/canu-destroys-more-than-429-million\/","title":{"rendered":"CANU destroys more than $429 million"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) has destroyed more than $429 million\u00a0worth of illegal drugs during an exercise on Homestretch Avenue this morning.<br><br>The narcotics\u00a0included 81 kilograms of cocaine, more than 1,100 kilograms of cannabis, and 314 grams\u00a0of other drugs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This drug destruction exercise this morning, I think it&#8217;s the second for CANU for the year.\u00a0So today we&#8217;re destroying&#8230; cocaine it&#8217;s 81 kilograms, cannabis\u00a01,161 kilograms, and methamphetamine is 314 grams, with a street value of about 4, estimated\u00a0street value $429,797,000,&#8221; CANU Director James Singh said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explained that the drugs were seized during operations over the past three\u00a0years, but court proceedings delayed their destruction.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;These would have been operations that would have been conducted over the last three years.\u00a0Unfortunately it has taken this long due to court proceedings, etc. But this is an example\u00a0of the continued effort by CANU over the last years, and with the support of the Ministry\u00a0of Home Affairs and other entities like the Police Force, Coast Guard, other elements\u00a0within the region,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CANU has seized 213 kilograms of cocaine so far this year, compared to 235 kilograms in\u00a02025.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) has destroyed more than $429 million\u00a0worth of illegal drugs during an exercise on Homestretch Avenue this morning.
