{"id":31407,"date":"2026-08-14T19:22:38","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T23:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=31407"},"modified":"2026-08-14T19:22:38","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T23:22:38","slug":"exxon-president-reveals-us-3-6b-spent-in-local-companies-in-the-pass-6-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/exxon-president-reveals-us-3-6b-spent-in-local-companies-in-the-pass-6-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Exxon President reveals US $3.6B spent in local companies in the pass 6 years\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-by NaAsia Bristol<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than US$3.6 billion has been spent with local companies since Guyana\u2019s oil industry began, according to ExxonMobil Guyana President Alistair Routledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Routledge says more than 2,000 local vendors and suppliers have participated in the industry so far, but he believes there is still room for Guyanese businesses to move further up the supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<strong>Over 2,000 individual vendors or suppliers in the industry to date and collectively the industry has spent over 3.6 billion US dollars in local companies. These are significant numbers and significant contributions<\/strong>,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Routledge says the development of Guyana\u2019s resources must also translate into opportunities for Guyanese businesses, with collaboration between government, international investors and the local private sector helping to drive that process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says the industry\u2019s ambition is now to move beyond the areas of the supply chain that are easiest for local companies to enter, and create opportunities higher up the value chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;How do we strengthen the supply chain? How do we continue to push beyond today&#8217;s frontiers? Get into parts of that supply chain which are not the low-hanging juicy fruit but the harder ones higher up the tree. How do we continue to build the human capacity in the country? How we&#8217;ve achieved today, what we&#8217;ve achieved has in part been bringing in some of that capability and bringing in the technology<\/strong>,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Routledge also pointed to the need for greater investment in human capacity and technology as Guyana\u2019s energy industry expands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>-by NaAsia Bristol More than US$3.6 billion has been spent with local companies since Guyana\u2019s oil industry began, according to ExxonMobil Guyana President Alistair Routledge.
