{"id":31208,"date":"2026-08-01T18:00:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T22:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=31208"},"modified":"2026-08-01T18:00:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T22:00:09","slug":"govt-seeking-reputable-company-to-salvage-mv-barima","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/govt-seeking-reputable-company-to-salvage-mv-barima\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t seeking reputable company to salvage MV Barima"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Government of Guyana, through the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) has gone out to seek Expressions of Interest from contractors who can salvage the MV Barima wreck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was explained that the ill-fated vessel, which sank last month resulting in Guyana\u2019s worst maritime disaster in history, is lying in soft mud at a depth of 42-49 feet and that visibility at the wreck is poor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cStrong currents and tidal streams may be encountered at times, necessitating suitably robust procedures and equipment for safe operations,\u201d MARAD further explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was explained that interested bidders must be \u201creputable salvage companies with a proven track record of successful vessel salvage operations in Guyanese or wider Caribbean waters\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Expressions of Interest must be submitted by Friday, August 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Government of Guyana, through the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) has gone out to seek Expressions of Interest from contractors who can salvage the MV Barima wreck.
