{"id":31068,"date":"2026-07-25T18:07:17","date_gmt":"2026-07-25T22:07:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=31068"},"modified":"2026-07-25T18:07:17","modified_gmt":"2026-07-25T22:07:17","slug":"national-assembly-to-consider-54-9-billion-supplementary-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/national-assembly-to-consider-54-9-billion-supplementary-budget\/","title":{"rendered":"National Assembly to consider $54.9 billion supplementary budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A $54.9 billion Supplementary Financial Paper will come before the National Assembly on Monday for consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, says the package aims to accelerate development across key sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The proposed allocations include $17.5 billion for the Ministry of Housing to fast-track housing development and reduce the backlog of applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Supplementary provisions of $8.3 billion will also be considered for the agriculture sector, including $3 billion for GUYSUCO, with provisions for retroactive payments to sugar workers, $807.5 million for the Guyana Rice Development Board, and $4.5 billion for the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another $19.1 billion is proposed under the Office of the Prime Minister for additional resources, including funding for the Gas-to-Energy Project, while the Ministry of Public Works is seeking $8.5 billion, with $6 billion for miscellaneous roads and drainage and $2.5 billion for hinterland roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The financial paper also includes $600 million for coastal airstrip maintenance under the Ministry of Public Utilities and Aviation, $496.3 million to support water interventions, and $60 million for the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit, under the Ministry of Home Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Minister Singh says the supplementary allocations will support the government&#8217;s ongoing investments in infrastructure, housing, agriculture, energy, and public services aimed at improving the quality of life for Guyanese.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A $54.9 billion Supplementary Financial Paper will come before the National Assembly on Monday for consideration.
