{"id":31031,"date":"2026-07-23T09:52:25","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T13:52:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=31031"},"modified":"2026-07-23T09:52:25","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T13:52:25","slug":"mv-barima-tragedy-govt-hosts-interfaith-prayer-service-to-honor-the-fallen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/mv-barima-tragedy-govt-hosts-interfaith-prayer-service-to-honor-the-fallen\/","title":{"rendered":"MV Barima tragedy: Gov\u2019t hosts Interfaith Prayer Service to honor the fallen"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier this evening, the government hosted the Interfaith National Prayer Service at the Kingston Seawall, to honor the lives lost in the devastating MV Barima Tragedy, which occurred on July 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ministers of government, members of the diplomatic corps, and other senior officials were present at the event, which also featured a spoken word performance giving thanks for those who survived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prime Minister, retired Brigadier Mark Phillips, also expressed thanks for all those who contributed to the search, rescue and recovery operations that were carried out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe recognize and commend the local teams working under exceptionally difficult conditions. Members of the public, disciplined services, medical personnel, divers, fishermen and other volunteers have responded promptly and with courage and compassion,\u201d the Prime Minister said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of Wednesday evening, 65 bodies have been recovered, of which 44 were positively identified by families.
