A team comprising veterinarians, livestock extension officers and animal care personnel has accompanied the shipment throughout the journey.

Addressing concerns about a delay at the river crossing, Dr. Walrond explained that the interruption was caused by tidal conditions and that the decision to delay the crossing was made to protect both the animals and personnel.

He also confirmed that three animal mortalities occurred during transport, which were documented and managed according to veterinary procedures. The supplier is expected to replace the animals at no additional cost to the Government of Guyana or the GLDA under the terms of the procurement agreement.

“So the animal welfare was taken care of,” Dr. Walrond said. “It’s not a case where the animals came and they were allowed to travel… without being attended. That’s not how we do business.”

The GLDA reiterated that the cattle are public assets acquired with the aim of improving genetic quality, strengthening food security and increasing domestic production.

The Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA) has rejected claims circulating on social media regarding the welfare and transportation of 1,000 pregnant cattle imported from Brazil, assuring that the animals have…

[468,350
488,1117,370,591,412,405
post-30845","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-agriculture","category-news","tag-488","tag-glda","tag-guyana","tag-ministry-of-agriculture","tag-ncn-guyana","tag-ncn-news
["GET
