{"id":30821,"date":"2026-07-11T19:55:36","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T23:55:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=30821"},"modified":"2026-07-11T19:55:36","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T23:55:36","slug":"govt-expands-community-based-childcare-access-across-guyana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/govt-expands-community-based-childcare-access-across-guyana\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov&#8217;t expands community-based childcare access across Guyana"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-by Kimberly Giddings <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud said many parents, especially\u00a0mothers, have had to postpone their studies or delay entering the workforce because they\u00a0lacked access to reliable childcare options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Persaud said the investment will support the establishment of home and community-based\u00a0childcare centers in communities across all 10 administrative regions.\u00a0She explained that the initiative includes training childcare providers and supporting\u00a0them in creating a safe, child-friendly environment where children can learn, play, and develop\u00a0while parents have peace of mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She added that the government will also partner with individuals who have suitable spaces\u00a0by assisting them in upgrading their facilities to meet the required standards for early childhood\u00a0care.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;We can help you to furnish and equip it.\u00a0We can help you to have the technical support you need to start, sustain, and expand.And we definitely want to see you provide affordable care to the parents who will come\u00a0to you.\u00a0I say affordable care because the one request the government has is when we co-invest with\u00a0you, your service should be accessible to all,&#8221; <\/strong>she said. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than 700 people have already registered for the initiative, including 718 individual\u00a0applicants as well as representatives from NGOs, faith-based organisations, and community\u00a0groups. Minister Persaud said the program aims to build communities that are more responsive to children&#8217;s\u00a0need while addressing social challenges.\u00a0She added that the ministry&#8217;s early childhood development program goes beyond childcare\u00a0by promoting positive parenting and strengthening family support systems.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Parenting is crucial in every child&#8217;s life.Whether you have one parent, both parents, grandparents, or caregivers, it is still parenting.\u00a0It is still raising a child or children.\u00a0And we have to ensure that everyone assumes collective responsibility so that we can eradicate\u00a0the negatives like child abuse.
