The Hon. Mohabir Anil Nandlall SC MP, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs met with members of the newly elected Executive Council of the Guyana Bar Association (GBA) yesterday, July 7, 2026, at the Boardroom of the Attorney General Chambers. The Attorney General congratulated the newly elected President Mr. Arud Gossai, Attorney-at-Law, and the new executive members of the GBA and wished them well for the remainder of their tenure. He emphasized that the GBA is an invaluable civil society partner of the Government on multiple platforms, in particular, in respect of the Government\u2019s legislative agenda and expressed the hope that the new Executive will continue to collaborate with the Government on matters of national importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hon. Attorney General was accompanied by Ms. Prithima Kisson, State Solicitor, Public Trustee & Official Receiver and Ms. Ayana Fable, Senior Parliamentary Counsel. Mr. Gossai was accompanied by Mr. Robin Stoby SC, Mr. Teni Housty, Mr. Samuel Glasgow, Mr. Chevy Devonish and Ms. Mohanie Anganoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting addressed an array of issues, including, continuous consultative engagements in relation to Bills, particularly those of a legal character. The meeting also discussed the important reforms which both parties agree must take place in relation to the Legal Practitioners Act in order to make the legal profession more accountable, including, strengthening of disciplinary measures, as well as institutional continuous educational programmes so that the legal profession can continue to maintain high professional standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon the initiative of the Hon. Attorney General it was also agreed that the GBA would meet with the Hon. Attorney General more frequently at mutually convenient intervals. The Hon. Attorney General also appealed to the Bar Council members to encourage the legal profession to be more proactive in recommending legal reforms and to utilize the services of the Guyana Law Reform Commission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
