{"id":30583,"date":"2026-06-24T17:46:47","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T21:46:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=30583"},"modified":"2026-06-24T17:46:47","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T21:46:47","slug":"gyec-rejects-misrepresentation-of-guyanese-territory-at-seogs-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/gyec-rejects-misrepresentation-of-guyanese-territory-at-seogs-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"GYEC rejects misrepresentation of Guyanese territory at SEOGS 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Guyana Youth Entrepreneurship Chamber (GYEC), which is currently participating in the Suriname Energy, Oil &amp; Gas Summit &amp; Exhibition (SEOGS 2026) in Paramaribo, has strongly condemned the misrepresentation of Guyana\u2019s territory during the event\u2019s opening ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Chamber noted that a map displayed during the ceremony depicted the New River Triangle, a recognised and undisputed part of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, as belonging to Suriname.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This depiction is inaccurate and unacceptable, particularly considering that the New River Triangle has long been established as Guyanese territory. A binding international agreement in 1936, through which a joint British-Dutch-Brazilian Boundary Commission was established, confirmed the tri-junction point of Guyana, Suriname, and Brazil. Guyana has exercised continuous sovereignty over the territory for nearly nine decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As an organisation representing Guyana\u2019s next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders, the GYEC categorically rejects any attempt to misrepresent the country\u2019s internationally recognised borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Chamber welcomes and fully supports the Government of Guyana\u2019s decision to lodge a formal diplomatic protest over the incident.
