The newly commissioned Diamond Recreational Park is expected to play a major role in enhancing the physical, mental, and social well-being of more than 40,000 residents living in the Grove\/Diamond community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the park\u2019s opening ceremony, First Lady Her Excellency Arya Ali said the development was a priority under the National Beautification Project, which aims to create inclusive and accessible public spaces that improve the quality of life for citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She noted that green spaces offer significant benefits and support holistic community development.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cParents can know that their children will be laughing and playing in a safe and secure environment\u201d,<\/strong> the first lady said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also said it is her intention for the park to become a hub for cultural exchange, physical activity and social interaction, while providing a safe and secure environment where children can play, and families can gather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis park is now yours. Its future rests not only in government investment, but also in the hands of the community it was built to serve\u201d<\/strong>, First Lady Ali said.<\/p>\n\n\n

The modern facility includes children\u2019s play areas, a multi-purpose court, outdoor gym, gazebos, walking paths, seating areas, lighting and vending kiosks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, said the park represents the government\u2019s people-centred approach to development and demonstrates that investments are being made in communities across Guyana, not only in urban centres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis will be contributing not just to the beautification of Guyana, but to promote health, wellness, community engagement, social cohesion, a place of interaction and uplifting the pride and dignity of all Guyanese\u201d<\/strong>, Minister Edghill said.<\/p>\n\n\n

He revealed that more than 2,000 truckloads of mud, garbage and debris were removed from the site, transforming a former dumpsite into one of the country\u2019s largest recreational spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister added that the project also created opportunities for small local contractors to contribute to national development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents were also encouraged to take ownership of the facility and help maintain it, ensuring the park remains a source of pride, recreation and community engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
