Investigator in the Consumer Affairs Unit,\u00a0Keelunn Booker, says the Commission has received\u00a0more than 50 complaints linked to the sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an exclusive interview with NCN News,\u00a0Booker said the auto industry,\u00a0followed by the construction industry\u00a0and the electronics sector,\u00a0continues to generate the highest number of consumer reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;In the year so far, we&#8217;ve received about 55 complaints.\u00a0And that has a total of $126,405,626 worth of complaints.\u00a0You have complaints ranging from persons purchasing brand new vehicles.We have complaints from persons buying vehicles from the US right here,\u00a0foreign used vehicles that are defective.\u00a0We have consumers complaining about buying parts for vehicles,\u00a0foreign used parts that are defective.\u00a0So it&#8217;s a whole host of complaints that we&#8217;re receiving,&#8221; he explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He adds, however, that they have been working\u00a0to address the matter with a number of cases\u00a0already being resolved with a 73% per cent clear-up rate,\u00a0but acknowledged that there is still a lot more to be done.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Booker is urging consumers to conduct proper checks\u00a0before purchasing vehicles or vehicle parts\u00a0and to ensure they deal with reputable businesses.\u00a0Meanwhile, the construction industry ranks second on the list of complaints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We&#8217;ve received a lot of complaints with regard to contractors doing substandard work.\u00a0Contractors receiving a lot of money\u00a0or receiving more money than the work that they actually put out.\u00a0And that is a major issue.We will often trust that consumers, you know, do their due diligence.\u00a0They ensure that they have a contract before getting involved.\u00a0Know what you&#8217;re getting involved with.
